Absences

It is very important for your child to always be at school.  If your child has to be absent from school in case of an illness or an emergency, please send a note to school the next day explaining why they were absent.  Absences without notes will be unexcused.

Tardies

Kindergarten students are expected to arrive at school on time and be ready for class.  Students arriving after 8:05 will be counted tardy, unless they have a doctor excuse or valid excuse from the parent.  You must go to the office to get a tardy slip before coming to class.

The following consequences are for tardies:

1st Tardy-Free

2nd Tardy-Warning

3rd Tardy-Morning or Afternoon Detention (Mrs. Henson)

Student Folders

Your child will bring home a folder every day.  Please look over all of the information within the folder.  The folder will contain notes, work, and other important information.  This is an excellent way for me to communicate with my parents.  Please send any notes, money, or other information that you want me to receive in your child’s folder.  I will check the folder every day.  Your child’s discipline report will be included.  Please make sure your child returns the folder every day.

Newsletters

I will send home a newsletter every Friday.  It will explain what we will be studying for the following week.  You will also be informed about upcoming dates, activities, and other important information.  Please make sure you read the newsletter every week.  We also have a class website that will contain lots of information for you.  I will post pictures throughout the year of our various activities.  Check us out…

Homework

Your child will receive homework throughout the school year.  It will give you and your child an opportunity to work together.  Nothing to hard!!!

Medication & Illness

If your child must take medication at school, please send it to school with a note.  Please remember that medication cannot be administered unless the nurse has written permission.

Please don’t send your child to school if he/she has been vomiting or has a fever.  They must be free of fever for 24 hours before they return to school.

Classroom Visits & Volunteers

You are always welcomed to visit our classroom.  You must stop by the office first to receive a visitor’s pass.

There will be many opportunities for you to volunteer during the school year.  Volunteering is a great way to let your child know that you support them in their education.  If volunteers are needed, I will put a note in my newsletter to let you know.  You can also join the PTO for meetings and volunteering around the school and in the classroom.

**Birthdays…You may send a “SPECIAL SNACK” to school for your child’s birthday.  Please let me know if you plan to send a special snack.

Conference

My conference time is from 9:55-10:40 each day.  Please don’t hesitate to contact me anytime you have a question or a concern.  You can call me at school at (903) 982-5230.  You can also e-mail me at shostetler@prairiland.net.

Student Pick-Up & Transportation

If you need to pick your child up early from school, you must check in with the office before coming to the classroom.  If your child needs to go home a different way other than their usual way, please send me a note, an e-mail, or call the office to make sure I am aware of the changes.  Your child will go home their usual way, unless I am contacted.

Show & Tell

If your child wants to bring something to share with the class it needs to be on Fridays.  The object has to follow along with our theme for the week.  **No toys!!!

Field Trips

We will take certain field trips this year.  Parents are welcome to come.  Please let me know if you like to help on a field trip.  Parents are not allowed to ride the bus.

Book Orders

Your child will be bringing home a form about once a month.  If you would like to order books for your child, just fill out the form and send the money and form back to school.  You are never under any obligation to order.

R.E.D. (Read Every Day) Take Home Folder

Students will participate in the R.E.D. program.  This program allows students to work on sight words and decodable texts to help with reading skills.  Your child will bring home a little book to read and then bring it back to school to read to me.  Please send the red folder back to school filled out and signed when they are ready to read.  I will put a sticker in the folder if your child reads the book correctly to me. When they have filled up the page, they will get a treat and a new recording sheet. I will usually send home books twice per week.

Grievance

There may be times when you do not agree with my policies or procedures.  I prefer that you come directly to me to discuss such matters.  Often, it is simply a matter of miscommunication.  Much more can be resolved through our communicating than by complaints being addressed to other parents or teachers.

**I look forward to working with you and your child throughout the Kindergarten year.  Remember…learning is an adventure!!!
